May 23rd - departure

For our 2017 summer trip, we left our place in Alabama on Tuesday May 23rd to eventually end up in Montana for a family reunion. The first place we spend overnight was a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campground in Clarksville, Arkansas. This campsite sat on a bluff of the Arkansas River.  The cost for this overnight stay for those of us over 62 was $8 per night which included water and electric.

As we continued west through Oklahoma,  we all know Oklahoma gets quite a bit of wind as evidenced by the number of wind generators.

Our next overnight stay was in Elk City, OK where they have a city park that offers FREE camping for up to four nights that INCLUDES water and electric.  A couple of weeks ago you heard about tornadoes that went through Texas, Oklahoma,  and Kansas.  Well the tornadoes went through a development adjacent to the city park and you can see the damaged houses, some of which we're reduced to rubble.

We entered SE Utah on May 26th and stayed at Devil's Canyon National Park. The cost of this park for those of us who have a senior pass to the national parks was $5 per night but did not include water or electric. The weather here is very dry and it seems like you cannot get enough to drink.
